Clients Receive Over 40 Academy Award® Nominations

February 23, 2016

With the 88th Academy Awards® just under a week away, we’re delighted that so many of our clients have been honoured with prestigious nominations for films where we’ve been a proud partner delivering marketing services for their release campaigns in the UK and the US.

Twentieth Century Fox, the studio behind Alejandro González Iñárritu’s gritty drama The Revenant, is currently leading the Oscar race with a whopping 12 nominations. The film was the big BAFTA winner last week, converting five of its eight nominations into wins including Best Film, Best Director and Best Actor for first time BAFTA Winner Leonardo DiCaprio.

Other front-runners from Twentieth Century Fox include Ridley Scott’s sci-fi survival film The Martian, which has seven nominations and Steven Spielberg’s Cold War drama Bridge of Spies, winner of the Best Supporting Actor BAFTA for Mark Rylance’s performance, has received six nominations.

Entertainment One’s Spotlight, winner of the BAFTA for Best Original Screenplay and StudioCanal’s romantic drama, Carol, starring Cate Blanchett both have six nominations each. While another prominent title from StudioCanal is Room, based on the novel by Emma Donoghue about a mother and son living in enforced confinement, which has picked up four nominations, including Best Adapted Screenplay. Whilst Brie Larson scooped the BAFTA for her portrayal of the young mother held captive, can she fight off the competition to win the Academy Award® for Best Actress?

Aardman’s stop-motion animation Shaun the Sheep, also from StudioCanal is nominated in the Best Animated Feature Film category and Jennifer Lawrence’s terrific performance in Joy from Twentieth Century Fox, has garnered her a nomination for Best Actress.

Hosted by Chris Rock, the 2016 Academy Awards® take place on Sunday 28 February at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. The ceremony kicks off at 8.30pm local time and can be streamed via ABC or for UK viewers via Sky from 1.30am GMT.
